A Conversation with Jennie Williams from Enhance the UK
We recently caught up with Jennie Williams, the CEO of Enhance the UK.
Enhance the UK is a user-led charity that aims to change the way people view disability, which often involves removing the ‘fear factor’ that so often surrounds the subject. Enhance the UK supports businesses to be more inclusive by providing disability awareness training, British Sign Language workshops and accessibility audits, amongst other things.
Over 10 years ago Jennie was working within the care sector and realised that not only was sexual expression not being discussed or appearing on any care plans, disabled people weren’t being viewed as capable or deserving of sensuality or intimacy. Be this through masturbation or with a partner.
In comes 'Undressing Disability' - Enhance the UK's global campaign which aims to raise standards in sexual health and sexual awareness for disabled people. Recently launched is the 'Undressing Disability Hub.' The Hub is an online networking platform where anyone can sign up for a free membership and share experiences, ideas, awareness campaigns and educational resources around the topic of sex and disability.
